Great film making from the Coen brothers. Inventive storytelling, with beautiful cinematography, editing, lighting, sound design, and sparkling dialogue. Available to watch on Netflix.
I was so happy to watch my fellow BA Animation lecturer Jordan Buckner’s film //_sleeper last night on BBC Four.
It was shown as part of BBC Four’s Animation 2018 Screening, funded by the BFI.
It is beautifully shot and the art direction really builds an intriguing and engrossing setting.
Set in a dying industrial town, //_sleeper tells the story of Frank, a recluse who wakes each day to a strange anomaly on the horizon. Black treacle skies, glowing monitors and strange phone calls are the backdrop to this unsettling character journey, as Frank looks ever watching towards the horizon – the anomaly awaits him.
